Meet Derek
Derek Bush is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in depression, anxiety, trauma, and bipolar disorder. He is passionate about helping others cope using strategies that address treatment for these disorders and others like them.
Derek attended California Lutheran University and holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology. He is trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) by Roger Soloman and Mark Nickerson through the EMDR Institute.
He possesses a wide range of knowledge in mindfulness techniques as well as being a long time meditation student for over ten years who consistently maintains strong relationships with his teachers at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center. Derek maintains a daily meditation practice and believes it has helped him gain an innate sense in fostering his awareness in order to live more skillfully with his own journey with anxiety and depression.
Before starting his private practice, Derek worked for two years with Canyon Creek Family Counseling & Trauma Healing, as well as Engage Treatment Program where he worked as Case Coordinator and Group Therapist in the Young Adult and Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs. He also has previously worked at Conejo Valley Unified School District as an Intensive School-Based Therapist at several school sites ranging from Elementary Schools through High School aged students providing one on one therapy for those in need.
Derek believes that when therapy can be a place that welcomes honesty and collaboration between the therapist and the client, kindness and interconnection is cultivated and that itself has the potential to benefit all beings everywhere.
